Ḥadīth Readings: Shurūṭ al-Aʾimmah al-Khamsah

The second Hadith Reading program, covering the Shurūṭ al-Aʾimmah al-Khamsah of Abū Bakr al-Ḥāzimī.

Hadith Readings

The formal and collective reading of classical Islamic texts has been a staple of traditional hadith studies. Since the early Islamic period, such gatherings, called maqraʾahs (lit. readings or recitations), have been employed for the transcription, verification, and comparison of hadith manuscripts, and it is through such formal readings – often in the presence of hundreds or thousands of attendees – that formal permission (ijāzāh) is granted to students to transmit hadith from their teachers. In continuation of this timeless element of Islam’s oral tradition, Darul Qasim is holding regular Hadith Readings to cover a variety of concise texts in various genres of hadith literature.
